Mr. Hoof has died of apoplexy at Madeley House, Kensington. Originally a collier but having been successful as a contractor in the works of the Thames Tunnel and in several railway undertakings, he became a wealthy man and the owner of a good deal of property at Kensington, beside naming his own villa after a Shropshire town. |
